Delft

 06 December, 2015
Delft, the pretty small town not far from The Hague, only 15 minutes by train and we are there. The main attraction in Delft is the Markt (main square). It can be reached on foot from Delft Train Station. We will pass some beautiful canals along the way to the Markt. And since it was near Christmas, we can see Delft was beautifully decorated with so  many lights.

In the Markt, we can see the famous Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and the Stadhuis (Town Hall). Actually Nieuwe Kerk was  not that new, it was built in 14th century. In here, we can visit the Mausoleum of Willem van Oranje, father of the country, and other royal family member.Just opposite the Nieuwe Kerk, we can see the beautiful Delft Stadhuis. The building was built in renaissance style.

Delft also well known for its famous painter, Johannes Vermeer who was born in Delft. Vermeer was known as the master of light. His most famous work is The Girl with a Pearl Earing. We can see this famous painting at Maurithuis, The Hague. In fact, there is Vermeer Centruum Delft, which is very close to Nieuwe Kerk, only 3 minutes walk.

And if we are looking for souvenirs, Delft porcelain is the answer. Delft is famous for its pottery, we called it Royal Delft Pottery. In the past, there were 32 factories produced pottery in Delft. But now, there is only one remain, the Royal Dutch Delftware Porcelain Factory. The blue and white colors make its characteristic of Delft Pottery.

On our way back to train station, we found an Indonesian Restaurant, Jong Java. The location is not far from train station. It serve meals and also traditional snacks.

With the price Eur 6 we can have one meal. For this time, we tried the Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice), Jong Jave Menu (Rice/Noodles with 1 meat & 1 vegetable ) and Nasi Bali (Balinese food served with rice).

The address is Binnenwatersloot 17, 2611 BJ Delft.
